The Alligator Lopper's wide 4-inch jaw capacity easily chews through small trunks and logs.

Because the Alligator Lopper cuts side-to-side instead of up and down, the chain won't bury itself in the ground when the cut is completed -- saving wear and tear on the cutting surface.

The Alligator Lopper's controlled, smooth cutting action makes clean-up from storms or simple pruning easy, safe, and fast.

Black & Decker's Power Saws -- Driven by Quality

Black & Decker offers both cordless and electric chain saws, including the Alligator Lopper electric chain saw and 18-volt cordless chain saws. Chain saws feature powerful motors for fast cutting and a sturdy, lightweight design that makes them exceptionally easy to use.

The Alligator Lopper Makes Cutting a Breeze

Take a big bite out of fallen trees, tree limbs and brush with the Alligator Lopper -- a revolutionary cutting tool that provides chainsaw-like cutting performance in an un-intimidating tool. With its scissor-like action, the Alligator Lopper’s rugged metal jaws clamp onto logs, thick branches, tree limbs, and vines -- and then saw right through them. Once limbs and branches are on the ground, the Alligator Lopper is perfect for chopping them up into manageable pieces to throw away or chuck into your fireplace.

This amazing saw boasts a rugged 4.5 amp motor for fast, powerful chomping through wood -- plus a heavy-duty cutting bar and chain to really chew through dense branches and logs. This model also features auto chain tensioning to keep the tool in top cutting form. Just loosen the bar retainer bolts with the included wrench and the bar automatically takes out the slack and adjusts the chain’s tension perfectly.

The Alligator Lopper’s jaws offer the ultimate in controlled cutting. The rugged metal guards that cover the jaws protect you from the cutting chain, and they immediately snap back over the blades once the cut is complete. The Alligator Lopper’s jaws also mean that there's no skipping around at the start of a cut. Unlike traditional chainsaws, the lopper cuts side-to-side instead of from top to bottom. This sideways cutting action prevents the cutting chain from burying itself in the dirt as the chain completes its cut.

The Alligator Lopper also makes it much faster and easier to cut logs, because you'll never need to prop them up on saw horses or on other any other brace. Just grab the logs in the Alligator Lopper’s jaws and cut right through them.

"Worked Perfectly 10 Hours Straight!" 2010-04-08

By Dustin L (Dallas, TX)

Last weekend I used my mom's Alligator to clean up her 3 acre property from the recent ice storms in Oklahoma. Every single tree on her property, from a Magnolia to Pecans, Cedars, Pines, and Aspens had major limb damage (approx. 12 mature trees). This little Alligator worked better than the 14" chainsaw I used last summer for trimming and chopping.

I worked from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm using the Alligator, taking occasional breaks only long enough to drink a couple glasses of water. Every time I took a water break, I re-oiled the Alligator. I was able to cut limbs as large as 6" in diameter. I was able to cut limbs while standing on a ladder, or perched 15 feet up in the tree. I even went at a limb from the wrong angle, got the Alligator stuck, and the motor started smoking when I was trying to free the it. I thought for sure I had burned the motor up - but once I got the Alligator unstuck, it started right up and worked perfectly the rest of the day. I love the scissor type way the Alligator opens to go around the limb. It really is as easy as squeezing the handles together.

I am notoriously hard on tools (that 14" chainsaw from last summer ended up cracked and chain-less), and I definitely put this Alligator through the ringer and back for 10 hours straight. When the day was over, as exhausted as I was from climbing up and down trees and hauling limbs to the burn pile, I wanted to do more because I knew the Alligator was capable and would make easy work of it. My triceps and forearms were a little bit sore for two days after, but not any more painful than a good workout at the gym.

I could not brag enough on the Alligator to my husband. We've been shopping for a chainsaw and are just so disappointed in the price vs. quality available concerning how infrequently we really need it for our own suburban yard in Texas. I am so impressed with the quality and versatility of this product, I can't wait to buy my own - and the price on Amazon is on average $20 cheaper than retailers, plus I get free shipping!

I have honestly never been more impressed with a product.

"This works great for weekend type stuff..." 2010-03-15

By J. Flood (New Jersey)

I've had this a couple of years now and it works great for my needs. I used it again this weekend to clean up from a big snowstorm we had a couple of weeks ago. It chewed up branches up to 5" thick easily. Ironically, it's the little twig pieces that occasionally will cause the chain to dismount. This has only happened to me twice and was easily fixed with a 1/2" socket wrench and a little common sense. I have a full size B&D chainsaw I no longer use because this is so much easier and frankly less intimidating. If you're a logger or frequently cutting firewood maybe you more, otherwise it's really handy to have around. I can't recall the last time I added a=oil by the way, of course that's probably not something you want to emulate.

 "Love it!" 2010-01-05

By M. Davis (Southern California)

I used a friend's Alligator saw over the weekend for a trimming project and was amazed by it. I'd never seen anything like this before. I had always struggled with limbs too large for my large lopers and too small for my big chainsaw and this tool fills the gap perfectly. This worked very well for limbs in the 1.5" to 3" diameter.

The trouble with using a regular chainsaw on smaller limbs (not logs) like these is that the wood either bends or moves away when you get a regular chainsaw on it. This means that you have to hold the limb with one hand and hold a heavy chainsaw with the other. With this tool's scissors action, the Alligator holds the wood for you.

Also, when cutting up downed limbs, I found that the chain action makes it easy to cut a limb that's lying flat on the ground. Just get it part way into the jaw and the chain and jaw pull the limb up and into the jaw to the perfect place for cutting. After using it for about an hour, I was actually looking for more stuff to cut up!

I've read the negative reviews and wonder if they might have had a defective unit or one that wasn't assembled properly or something. Hard to explain why I had such a smooth time with cutting up a bunch of stuff and a few other's experience worked out badly. Perhaps my one hour experience isn't long enough to be thourough?

It's not often I'm impressed with a tool, but this is an exception. I'm shopping for one now and I'll have my own within a week.

 "Best Yard Tool Ever" 2009-12-27

By Michael A. Mckenzie (Marietta, Georgia)

The "Gator" is by far the best yard tool I have ever owned. I also own a gas powered chain saw but I reach for my electric "Gator" every time I can. I must have made a thousand cuts with the same chain and it is still kicking out large chips (which means that the chain is still sharp). I very highly recommend it to everyone.
